The Adoption Process

Big Hearts for Big Breeds Rescue currently serves Arizona. We do our very best to match the right dog to the right family by finding out as much as possible about you, the Potential Adoptive Family, before placing a dog. This ensures a long term viable placement for both the family and the dog. Bringing in a new family member can be a major decision, our process is designed to help make that decision a reality.

Do your research to make sure a large breed is for you.

Owning and caring for a large breed is not only rewarding, it can be an experience unknown to many. Please visit our resources page as it provides information on these animals to help with your decision process.

You've made the decision, now lets start the application.

Submit an application for adoption through our online portal. This application allows the Rescue to get to know you a bit better, understand your specific adoption needs, and find the best options available for you and your family. Making sure the dog is a good fit for you and your home benefits everyone in this process, we want you and your new family member to thrive.

Things to know when submitting an application:

  • We do need References

You will need to provide at least 2 references that do not live in your household on the application, we will contact them in regards to this application only. This is to ensure these dogs are placed in an environment that fits best for everyone involved.

  • The more the better!

Please provide accurate and up to date information as it will be used to find the best adoptable rescues for you and your family.

  • We are here to help

Don't hesitate to ask questions, we do this to give the gentle giants a new lease on life.

The Review Process

Your submitted application will be reviewed, when it is decided to move forward with your application, an adoption coordinator will reach out to you via phone and email to schedule a home visit. We do request that all members of the house hold be present for this appointment as it is a grounds inspection and meet 'n greet to your coordinator.s

Once you have met with your coordinator and complete the home inspection, you will receive and 'Adoption Approval' email. This allows you and your coordinator to begin scheduling dog introductions with household members and current pets. Do not feel stressed about this process, again we want to help with finding the best fit for the rescue and your family. Every dog is different and the one you may have seen online may not be the one you choose to become your new family member, and that is Ok! That is the purpose of these introductions.
